Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1.  Is this therapy or a skills training group?

This is a DBT Skills Training Group, not individual therapy. The focus is on learning, practicing, and applying DBT skills in a structured group format. Participants must be concurrently enrolled in individual therapy.

2.  Do I need a diagnosis?

No diagnosis is required. This program is skills-based and diagnosis-agnostic. Clinical fit is determined through screening and intake review.

3. What if I miss a session?

You are expected to attend all sessions. If you miss a session, you may view the recording, but billing is not paused or adjusted for missed sessions.

4.  Can I switch tracks later?

Track changes are not guaranteed and depend on availability and clinical appropriateness.

5.  Is this comprehensive DBT?

No. This program is DBT skills training only—a structured, therapist-led group focused on learning and practicing core DBT tools. It does not automatically include comprehensive DBT treatment, such as individual DBT therapy, between-session phone coaching, or a full DBT consultation/treatment team.

That said, individual therapy and phone coaching are available as optional add-on services for purchase, for participants who want additional support and personalized application between sessions.

6.  Who is this group appropriate for?

This group is appropriate for individuals who are emotionally stable enough for an outpatient group setting, are motivated to learn and practice skills, and can participate consistently and safely in a group environment.

7.  Is this program appropriate if I am in crisis?

No. This group is not designed to manage acute crises or provide higher-level care. If you are currently experiencing a crisis or require intensive support, a higher level of care may be more appropriate.

8.  What does the pre-screening process involve?

The pre-screening consists of brief screening questions and intake forms reviewed prior to enrollment confirmation. This process helps determine whether DBT Skills Training is the appropriate level of care and ensures group readiness and safety.

9.  Can I be denied enrollment after registering and paying?

Yes. All enrollments are subject to clinical review. If the program is determined not to be clinically appropriate for your needs, your initial payment will be refunded in full.

10.  How long is the program?

The program runs for 24 consecutive weeks, with weekly 2.5-hour live virtual sessions. Please note: groups are not held on major holidays (holiday weeks are skipped as needed), and the schedule will be communicated in advance so you can plan accordingly.

11.  How many people are in the group?

Groups are intentionally small, with a maximum of 6 participants, to support engagement, safety, and meaningful practice.

12.  Are sessions recorded?

Yes. Sessions are recorded and made available for make-up viewing. Recordings are not a substitute for live participation.

13.  Is camera-on participation required?

Yes. This is a highly interactive group, and camera-on participation is expected to support learning, accountability, and group cohesion.

14.  Will we discuss personal trauma in the group?

No. This group emphasizes skills learning and application, not in-depth trauma processing or personal history exploration.

15.  What is the difference between the tracks?

All tracks include the same DBT curriculum. Differences reflect level of support, access, and individualized therapeutic involvement, not program content or quality.

16.  Does choosing a higher track mean my symptoms are more severe?

No. Track selection reflects preference for structure and support—not symptom severity.

17.  How does payment work?

Your initial payment is collected at registration to reserve your seat. Depending on your plan, recurring billing begins one full billing cycle after the first session.

18.  Do you take insurance?

I am a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. However, I am credentialed (in-network) with a number of insurance plans and can provide superbills that you may submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement, depending on your plan’s benefits. Reimbursement is determined by your insurer and is not guaranteed.

19.  Can I use out-of-network benefits?

Possibly. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursement. You pay at the time of service, and I can provide a superbill (typically issued monthly) for you to submit to your insurance company. Because each plan is different, you are responsible for confirming your out-of-network coverage, reimbursement rate, and any deductible requirements directly with your insurer.

20. Is my payment refundable?

If enrollment is not approved following clinical review, your initial payment will be refunded in full. Once enrollment is confirmed, standard cancellation and refund policies apply.

21. Does billing continue if I miss sessions or watch recordings?

Yes. Billing is not paused or adjusted for missed sessions.

22.  What technology do I need?

You will need a computer or tablet, reliable high-speed internet, a webcam, a microphone, and a private, distraction-free space.

23.  Can I join from anywhere?

Yes. The program is offered virtually and is accessible worldwide, provided you can meet the technology and participation requirements.

24.  What if I’m unsure this is the right fit?

The screening and intake process is designed to help determine fit before enrollment is confirmed. If you have concerns, it’s encouraged to review the program details carefully before registering.

25.  What makes this program different from self-paced DBT courses?

This program offers live, therapist-led instruction, real-time practice, feedback, and a structured group environment that supports accountability and skill integration over time.
